Based on the principles that have made the Skip Barber Race Series the premiere
training ground for the aspiring professional and amateur racer alike – professionally
built and equally prepared cars, individual coaching and arrive-and-drive convenience
– the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge combines our more than 30 years of
expertise running equal-car racing championships with Mazda’s iconic MX-5 Miata
sports car. Closely following our open-wheel Skip Barber Race Series in format and
philosophy, the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge is specifically designed
to be financially and geographically accessible. As a rung on the MAZDASPEED
Motorsports Development Ladder, the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge is ideal
for drivers whose preferred career path leads to sports car racing, or those who
would prefer their racing door-handle to door-handle, rather than wheel-to-wheel.
Each Mazda MX-5 Cup car is built by the Skip Barber team, with specifications closely
matched to those of the SCCA Pro Racing Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. Skip Barber
professionals conduct all the testing and equalization.
Skip Barber Racing operates two seasonal championships – the aptly named Summer
Series and Winter Tour – so that no matter the time of year, there is always racing
available. You can do just one Race Weekend – or as many as you like. Our flexible
points system allows you to compete for a racing championship while maintaining
your busy schedule.
The Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge is open to drivers who have completed
a Skip Barber Racing Three Day Racing
School, plus two Advanced
Activities. Additionally, if you've graduated from another accredited
professional racing school, or you already have a documented racing history, you
are also eligible to enter the Race Series after meeting some pre-requisites.
All drivers have limited damage liability for Lapping, Practice and Race Weekends,
as well as optional Race Weekend activities. Your School & Series Advisor can provide
details on those limits and the required refundable deposits.
